We Will Not Chop Your Money - Yaw Ampofo Ankrah Reacts To World Cup Budget

A special aide to the Minister of Youth and Sports says it is nave for people to assume that the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports will chop Ghanas $20m budget for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. There is no way Ghanas budget for the World Cup will be approved without there been transparency, he said adding that, That is not possible. There is no way any amount will be approved and the GFA will quote and un-quote, go chop chop. I think that is quiet nave thinking by some people that an amount will be approved and the GFA will chop the money. I mean that to me is quiet scandalous, Ampofo Ankrah explained. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has described as mischievous and assumptions allegations that the Ghana Football Association intends to embezzle the world cup money. People are just being mischievous and being impatient, he said in an interview with Radio XYZ. Personally, because in 2006 and 2010 it was not a hidden budget, its open and everybody knows what went in, what came back there was no secret. If Ghana gets to the quarters, the semis or the finals, the money they make is it going back to the government or the GFA; these are the questions we should be asking. Many Ghanaians have raised serious concerns about the amount of money the country will be spending at the four-week tournament but Yaw Ampofo Ankrah believes the budget will only be approved after it has gone through some thorough scrutiny. This comes only a week after the Minister of Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie Ankrah had threatened to resign from politics after the 2016 general elections after allegations by a section of the Ghanaian media that the budget for the world cup is highly inflated.
