4 Arrested For Distributing Fake Insecticides

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Ashanti Region has seized 110 fake insecticide and pesticide products of a popular Ghanaian brand, Franklit. The fake products, manufactured by an unknown company, are imitations of Franklit products, which legally packages and manufactures the products at Suame, in Kumasi with the support of a Chinese firm. The products were detected in an ongoing swoop by a task force of the Food and Drugs Authority and the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on unregistered products on the market. Four persons have been arrested in Kumasi in connection with the distribution of the fake products. The FDA and the Police Service has mounted a search for the importer of the fake insecticide products. Ultimate Radios Nana Oye Diabene reported that the product has the same colors as the Franklit products with the same designs of a mouse and rat board with the same type of sprays and mosquito coils. She however says the fake products had a labeling suggesting that the product was produced from a Chinese firm, Sangshan Lishan Commodity Company limited whereas Franklit products have their prime manufacturers Greenleaf, a different Chinese company. Meanwhile the management of Franklit Company Limited is advising the public to be wary of such fake products since they have dire consequences on the users. Speaking to Ultimate Radio, Public Relations Officer of the company, Kwasi Addae directed that users of all Franklit Products look out for the Food and Drugs Authority embossment number which reads FDB C.11.11096 which differentiates the product from fake ones.
