TV Africa Calls For Investigation Into Attack On Journalist

The Management of Television African Limited on Friday appealed to the Ministry of Information and Media Relations to investigate operatives of the National Security who maltreated crew from the Station on assignment at Adjei Kojo in Accra. A statement in Accra signed by Mr A.C. Ohene, Head of News and Current Affairs of the TV Africa, said a reporter, a cameraman and a soundman were sent to the Adjei Kojo area where buildings were pulled down about a month ago. It said it was to scout for audiovisual from the impact that the Independence Day rainfall had caused at the site. The statement said management had a distressed call from the team that it was being held by operatives of the National Security that had pitched camp near the demolition spot for no specific offence. It said they seized the camera, ordered them to remove their pairs of socks, surrender their cellular phones and wrist watches and subjected them to thorough body search. It said the operatives also detained members of the news team for two hours before releasing them.
