Kumasi: Suspected Robber Killed By Mob At Atonsu

A suspected thief believed to be in his early 30s was this morning lynched by angry residents at Atonsu here in Kumasi. When Ultimate Radios Ebenezer Afanyi Dadzie arrived at the scene, the deceased, who had bruises all over his body and blood oozing from his head, had been tied to a streetlight pole naked with residents and onlookers taking photos of him. One other suspect believed to be part of a three-member gang that allegedly broke into a shop to steal hair products, was nearly killed by angry mob in broad day light, but for the intervention of the police. The suspect, aged about 25, was stripped naked and had residents taking photos of him as he was intermittently hit with stones and other offensive objects. The third suspect according to residents escaped unhurt. An Eyewitness who spoke to Ultimate Radios Ebenezer Afanyi Dadzie said, At about 2am this dawn I heard thieves were operating in this area. I was told they were about three. So some guys in the area chased them and they accosted two of them. The third person escaped. Those accosted were subjected to severe beatings and one was tied to this pole. This one too was severely beaten and was later released to go but he was knocked down by a car. So I went to sleep and only witnessed this morning that they killed the one that was tied to the pole. I heard the stole hair products from a container shop in the area. Asokwa Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Andane-Ameyaw, told Ultimate Radio the injured suspect is being treated at the hospital to assist police investigations. This is the third lynching incident reported by Ultimate Radio in the Kumasi Metropolis in the last one month. The first occurred around the stadium area and the other at the Sokoban wood village.
