Pageants Has Taught Me A Lot Face of Vienna City 2014

Nineteen-year-old Charlotte Derban is the winner of the 2013 edition of the Face of Vienna City. She beat nine other contestants at the pageant held on December 14, 2013 at the Vienna City Beach Resort in Takoradi. For her prize, she received a brand new Kia Picanto car aside the crown and other attractive packages. The young lady who is also an aspiring actress spoke in an exclusive short interview with NEWS-ONEs Francis Addo yesterday. What have you been up to since you were crowned? I donated to the Street Children Foundation in James Town. I also had a lead role in an upcoming television commercial. I recently returned from a movie set in Aburi and may go back this Saturday to shoot another upcoming advert with Rodger Quartey. You must be making a lot of cash. No, I am kind of using the penetration system and not really thinking about money now. How did you get to be part of Face of Vienna? I heard the promo in Takoradi so I went to the club (Takoradi branch) to register, thinking the audition train was going to be in Takoradi as well. But I had a call a night before that the audition was going to take place in Accra only. I took the morning flight to Accra to partake in the audition. After that, we were asked to go back home and that we were going to receive calls from the organisers and surprisingly I received a call that I had been selected to be a part of the contestants. So what really pushed you to audition for it? Was it for the fame of it? Not reallyI just wanted to exploit beyond Takoradi because most people kept saying that I could only win when competing in Takoradi-based pageants. So I actually joined to prove myself. Does it mean this is not your first time winning a pageant? This is not my first. I started with runway modelling at the age of 10I then contested for Miss Oil City 2011 and I emerged as the winner. I also won Prom Queen in the year 2012 but I have been doing photo modelling for the past five years. I also won the 4syte Azonto Queen in 2011 in Takoradi. Would you have regretted being part of Face of Vienna City if you had not won? NoI wouldnt have regretted because I believe in myself and I would have kept pushing harder by trying other pageants. I would feel a bit down though because of the stigma on me that I could only win Takoradi-based pageants. But God being so good, I proved myself. Are we likely to see you participate in other pageants in future? I will leave that to my management to decide. But I have learnt a lot from pageants. It has given me the courage to speak to a multitude of people, how to relate to people and how to tolerate certain attitudes from people. It has also given me a great platform. How was your growing up like? I grew up in Takoradi. I attended Nav-West Primary and JHS and continued my secondary education at Ahantaman Senior High. Who is your role model? I always say my mum is my role modelbut people always tell me they see Rihanna in me and some say they see Omotola in me.
