A FAMILY, claiming ownership of land earmarked for construction of a University in the Eastern Region by government at Somanya says the family is not ready to release land for the project since the said land has already been sold. According to the Nyanteh family,out of the over 600 acres of land surveyed for the project,400 acres belong to the family;however, the family has not been contacted by government or any official from the Yilo Krobo Municipal assembly requesting to acquire the land for such project. The family has, therefore, vowed to resist attempts being made to forcibly take the land from the family. Madam A Nyanteh, spokesperson for the family told the Daily Heritage that, the land has even been sold to Accra Institute of Technology for construction of a campus in the area. The misunderstanding over the land is believed to have been causing the delay for the construction of the university in the region. Madam Nyanteh says the family has documents on the land which has been registered with Land commission adding that,the land was legally acquired by her father Nana Kwame Nyanteh in May 1976. Her father according to Madam Addoley purchased the land from the families of Abogray and Ayitray of Trom between the township of Agomeda and YiloKrobo. Madam Addoley who lived in the United States for twenty five years confirmed that her father who was a retired policeman purposely bought the land for fishing net factory and registered it at the land commission in June 1976. She disclosed that her father conducted a search on the proposed land before proceeding to pay for it adding that the search indicated that the land does not belong to the Krobo stool.
