Prez Mahamas ECOWAS Appointment Is Suicidal Mission

Following the appointment of President John Dramani Mahama as the chairman of the Economic Community Of West African State (ECOWAS) on its 44th Summit in Ivory Coast at Yamoussoukro, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described his (Mahamas) appointment as disaster for both Ghana and the sub-region. ECOWAS leaders meeting in the Ivorian political capital, Yamoussoukro, for their 44th summit elected the Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama to replace Cote d'Ivoire's Alassane Oattara at the helm of the regional bloc last week. "I am pleased to announce that the Heads of State have agreed to entrust the destiny of ECOWAS to their counterpart and brother from Ghana, John Dramani Mahama," President Oattara announced at the end of the two-day summit on Saturday announced. But Richard Asante Yeboah who is obviously not pleased with the appointment of President Mahama has ascribed the honor to the President and Ghana as a suicidal mission which will deepen the frustrations of the President as he struggles to deal with the economic situation of his country. He maintained that the appointment of the President has come at a time when he (Mahama) is struggling to resolve the issue of Ghanaians having access to basic needs, even as the country continues to flounder over fuel and utility price hikes. He however was of the view that the President should have rejected the appointment when the baton got to him to chair the ECOWAS, adding the President accepted the offer to score a political gain as everybody sees him as a failure in his governance President Mahamas appointment is suicidal for Ghana and the ECOWAS sub-region because he is already frustrated with the kind of stewardship he is rendering to Ghanaians and coupled with this new position, he will deepen the woes of the country and end up destroying what the regional bloc has built in the past.he should have rejected the call when the baton got to him to chair the regional bloc; he is driving the country and the ECOWAS to a ditch and it will be disastrous, the NPP communicator said in interview with Peacefmonline.com.
