Nana To Pick Bawumia Again For 2016

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not announced a time table leading to the election of its 2016 flagbearer. It is expected to be before the end of this year but one issue hangs who is likely to win? It is clear that the man to beat is its 2008 and 2012 flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo. Whilst nominations have not been opened, for some analysts, the next issue to deal with is who will Nana pick as his running mate? Nana is a politician in his own right, with lots of experience to take a decision which will impact on his political future. How will no doubt be under pressure by some elements in the party to change Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate in the 2008 and 2012 elections. The Daily Dispatch will be surprised if Nana will change Dr. Bawumia because analysis of the 2012 elections in a forthcoming book by the Editor, Ben Ephson, reveals that the NPPs improved performance in the Northern Region was due to Dr. Bawumia. The book, coming out in a month, indicates whilst the NPP had 11.5% of seats in 2008, it had 32.2% in 2012. In terms of actual numbers, it had three of 26 seats in 2008 and 10 of 31 seats in 2012. In the presidential election in the Northern Region, the NPP improved between 2008 and 2012. In 2008, Nana had 303,406 votes in the first round, representing 38.3%. in 2012, Nana had 39.11% - 383,263 votes. The question is why should Nana Akufo-Addo change Dr. Bawumia? Does Nana know the scandal(s), the new one will have in his or her cupboard?
