The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abdulai Andani has expressed gratitude to the government for starting the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road. He said Am very grateful to receive a message from President John Dramani Mahama that work on the Eastern Corridor Road is to begin now. Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Andani said this when a 13-member delegation, sent by President Mahama, paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi to inform him about the start of the Eastern Corridor Road. He said, the road when constructed would promote business activities and make transportation from the Northern Region through Kumasi to Accra faster and urged all to support the efforts of the President towards its success. Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Andani urged traditional authorities and Municipal and District Assemblies along the Eastern Corridor to support the project and cooperate with the contractors for a speedy execution of the project. Alhaji Abdul-Basit Alhassan Fuseini, Deputy Northern Regional Minister said the decision to inform the Regent of Dagbon was out of courtesy, as demanded by custom for the Overlord of Dagbon to give his blessings and support for the success of the project. He said the project would pass through the Volta, Northern and Upper East Regions and would open up more investment and employment, especially for the youth, to avoid the situation of them migrating to urban centers in search of jobs. Mr Mike Obuobi, from the Office of the President, who led the delegation, announced that actual physical work on the project would begin next week from River Oti Damanku to Nakpanduri. He said the project would be executed by the Government of the Republic of Ghana, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Highway Authority, Andrade Gutierrez Infrastructure, and Construtora Norberto Odebrecht Infrastructure of Brazil with Associate Consultant from Ghana. Mr Issah Zakaria, Yendi Municipal Chief Executive appealed to the contractors to use local labour on the job.
