THE ASHANTI Regional MTTU Command of the Ghana Police Service has ordered the removal of all tinted glasses of commercial cars including taxi cabs. As a result, commercial cars with tinted glasses would be sanctioned because they are a threat to members of the public, Chief Superintendent Peter Gyimah, the Ashanti Regional MTTU commander has indicated. In a special exercise embarked on by the MTTU on Monday, 60 taxi cabs with tinted glasses plying roads in the metropolis were arrested. They were later handed over to their owners with a caution to remove the decorations on the glasses because it was against the law. C/Supt. Gyimah said intelligence reports have revealed that criminals hide behind tinted glasses of taxi cabs for their criminal activities and harass and rob passengers. The Ashanti Regional MTTU commander said the exercise follows a series of announcements and education last week and a two-week ultimatum for drivers to remove all tinted glasses to ensure the safety of passengers. According to him, armed robbers and unscrupulous individuals mostly hire the services of taxis with tinted glasses to do undercover activities. He said it is with such tinted taxis that criminals undertake kidnapping and snatching, and pleaded with taxi owners to prevail on their drivers to remove the tinted glasses before the law catches up with them.
