Revenue Collector Chops GH�44,340 �Belonging To Suhum Assembly

THE SUHUM Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Peter Griffix Boateng, chief revenue collector at the Suhum Municipal Assembly for allegedly stealing an amount of GH� 44,340.00 belonging to the assembly. The suspect is now on the run but is believed to be hiding in the Eastern region. Information gathered by the Daily Heritage and corroborated by the police account indicated that the suspect committed the act in September 2011 by forging documents of the assembly's banker claiming to be receipt of payments made on revenue collected into the account of the assembly. The modus operandi of the suspect is reported to have existed for long and has succeeded in stealing a total amount of GH�44, 340.00 However, the theft was only detected this year and the suspect was handed over to the police, but was granted bail and has since vanished from the municipality. However,the police have launched a search for the whereabouts of the suspect, but that has been unsuccessful. Following the suspect�s failure to appear before the Suhum Magistrate Court, the court has declared him wanted. In an interview with the Municipal Chief Executive of Suhum Municipal Assembly, Samuel Fretcher Kwabi, he declined further comment, but confirmed the theft.He said the assembly has handed over the case to the police to enforce the law. The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command,Gideon Boateng said the regional Police Command is appealing to the general public to volunteer information on the suspect to aid his arrest by contacting the police. He said the Police believe the suspect is hiding around Ekye-Amanfrom, Donkokrom all in the Affram Plains, Nkawkaw, Koforidua or Agogo. The assembly members at Suhum Municipal assembly issued statement after emergency meeting at the assembly and called on the Inspector General of Police,Mohammed Alhassan to transfer the Suhum Police Commander, Supt Anane Appiah for what they term �gross incompetence.� They cited the case of the wanted revenue collector who has absconded with the assembly's amount as an example of the Police commander�s incompetence since he failed to keep records of the suspect.
