UTAG Suspends Intended Strike

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has suspended its intended strike until further notice. According to the UTAG President, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe, the decision to strike has been put on hold until the meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) slated for Wednesday is over. The next line of action is to meet the National Labour Commission tomorrow, after the meeting, we would know whether to go on with our decision to withdraw our services to rescind our decision, he said. UTAG threatened to embark on strike by Tuesday if the National Council for Tertiary Education fails to initiate processes to pay their book and research allowances for the 2013/2014 academic year by next week. Speaking to Citi News however, Mr. Bekoe said if they are still going to go ahead and treat us like pigs, then theres not going to be any solution.
