Tears Flow For KG Pupil �Who Got Drowned While Trying To Rescue Her Sandals

THE BODY of a seven-year-old KG 2 pupil, Solix Dadzie Nyarko of A.M.E Zion Primary School at Srodae, a suburb of Koforidua has been retrieved six days after being washed away by flowing water in a gutter. Despite the collaborative search effort by the victim's family, the police and rescue officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, it took almost a week for the body of the little innocent girl to be retrieved. The body of the deceased who was in her school uniform when the disaster occurred has been sent to the St. Joseph�s Hospital. She was discovered at the Nsukwao River bank by a group of young hunters who were hunting for grass-cutter. One of the hunters informed the elders living around the area and subsequently reported the matter to the police who proceeded to retrieve the body from the riverside at the outskirt of the town yesterday. The incident occurred on Friday after a downpour at around 1:30pm. The victim is reported to have attempted to pick her sandals which were being taken away by the flowing water in the gutter. The uncle of the victim, Richard Armah explained to the Daily Heritage that on that fateful day, the victim after school dropped her school bag in the room and went out with her elder sister while it was raining. He said after some few minutes, information got to the family that the victim had been washed away by the running water while attempting to grab her sandals which were being taken away. He said efforts by eyewitnesses to rescue the girl proved futile while searches for the victim also yielded no results. He said a complaint was lodged to the police who issued a notice to the Ghana National Fire Service to join the police search for the victim in both closed and open gutters in the municipality which also yielded no results until Wednesday when news broke that the body had been discovered. The assembly member for Social Welfare electoral area where the incident occurred, Amponsah Dadzie Elliot expressed worry about the incident and consoled the family after joining the police to retrieve the body. He advised parents to have an eagle eye over their children in all their endeavours to prevent such calamities.
