It is perfectly legitimate at this point in time to contemplate an era without an invalid and underachieving Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the helm of affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). It�s a new game with new rules, but yet the rank and file of the party is failing to see it. Nana Addo has become like a cult in the party, such that any mention of a possible replacement raises the temperature of some people to abnormal levels. I am contemplating two reasons, the first and critical reason I can come up with is that, a lot of these people, who sees nothing wrong with the candidature of Nana Addo, have since 2008 invested so much in the man such that replacing him, will mean that their investments have gone waste. So win or lose, they will still hang onto the maggot infested wood that has failed to deliver them victory in 2008 and 2012. The second reason is that the late President, John Evans Atta Mills won the 2008 election after a third attempt, so by that yardstick, they think Nana Addo, will also be third time lucky. What they forget is that John Mills failed to beat ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor on two occasions that he contested against him, i.e. 2000 and 2004, but defeated Nana Addo at his third attempt. One thing is clear and apparent to all who want to face the truth and that is Nana Addo is a bad candidate for NPP and a bad choice for Ghana. In 2016, Nana Addo, will most likely slug it out with President John Dramani Mahama, if history is anything to go by, and by which they believe Nana Addo, could win then they should be prepared for another defeat as President Mahama, will beat him again. Since we ushered in the 1992 democratic dispensation, the two surviving Presidents that we have, President Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, all served two successive four year terms. President Rawlings as sitting President won both the 1992 and 1996 elections defeating Albert Adu Boahene of NPP in 1992 and John Agyekum Kufuor in 1996. President Kufuor on the other hand won the 2000 and 2004 elections, defeating late President Mills of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in both elections. So if history is to guide us going forward, then should the make another mistake of electing Nana Addo, they should be prepared for another defeat and this time around it will be so humiliating and embarrassing that they will not go to the Supreme Court to seek to invalidate the elections, but to the International Court of Justice in Hague. Nana Add has been around too long, I think it�s about time he took a bow from active politics and allow those with vision and sense of purpose to steer the affairs of the nation. The NPP is a party I have always admired, because the part is made up of capable and well resourced personalities, with the capacity to turn the fortunes of the party around. Former President Kufuor, who is even considered not bright among his peers and was seen as a black sheep in his family will go down among the best Presidents we have had since Independence. Not that he was exceptional but he left certain legacies that will stand the test of time and history. Maybe that was why he got ahead of himself by decorating himself and his cronies, with medals for a job well done. It stands to reason therefore that the NPP has the men to replace Nana Addo and get this country to the promise land. Nana Addo is not the only person with the panacea to the problems of this country. Against all odds, John Agyekum Kufuor was able to defeat him in the primaries of the NPP in 1997 for the 2000 elections, so what shows that nobody can�t defeat him, if only the rules are even and fair. The way things are now, the rules will be bent in favour of Nana Addo and so with certainty I can confidently say that dead or alive, he will win the primary of his party for election 2016. But as said by the renowned economist and a member of the NPP, Kwame Pianim that any idiot can be a flagbearer, Nana Addo for as long and as many times that the NPP want, could be made the flagbearer, but the Presidency will elude them. You can�t fight today�s war, with yesterday�s strategy. You cannot be driving forward and looking into the rear view mirror. It is only a recipe for disaster and that what NPP has been doing to themselves all the times that they have elected the old man to lead them. The about 5000 delegates, who assembled in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital a fortnight ago, has set something in motion and that is clear all the non-performing executives, whose actions and utterances have brought the name of the party in disrepute. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey alias 66 and Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John are two example of the bi-product of democracy. If the delegates could decide that Ghanaians are fed up with these two gentlemen, then they have a date with history in September when the party assembles in another carnival to put the nail on the coffin of Nana Addo. The man is simply refusing to sleep. The party will be better off without Nana Addo. The insult that now characterizes the party has been brought about by the presence and the unfettered control the man has on the party. There is a wind of change blowing in the air. Nana Addo will be a goner, hopefully by close of the year. I am waiting to see, what and how the party will look like without him.
