TUC calls on workers to improve upon productivity

Dr Anthony Yaw Baah, Deputy General Secretary of Trade Union Congress (TUC), has appealed to workers to improve upon productivity to enable the union to have strong basis to negotiate for better salaries for them. He said government had shifted from the position of freezing of salary increment to open negotiations for a new minimum wage this year. Dr Baah was speaking at the general meeting of members of the New Juaben Municipal Council of Labour in Koforidua. He said the Single Spine Salary Structure was introduced to help raise the salaries of public service workers to inspire them to increase productivity. Dr Baah said, however productivity level is low, explaining that a study shows that, out of the 600,000 workers employed in the public sector, only 100,000 could be said to be meeting their productivity level. He said the country needs a leader who would not only declare his fight against corruption but would demonstrate it by his actions and inactions. He called on Ghanaians to buy made in Ghana goods to help create employment for the youth.
