Man Killed At Ashaiman New York

A 39-year-old tanker driver has been shot dead by armed robbers at his residence at New York, a suburb of Ashaiman. The deceased, Santos Avordagbe, was said to have been shot several times in stomach by the four armed robbers around 2:00 am last Monday. His body was deposited at the Tema General Hospital morgue after he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The body of the deceased is expected to be transferred to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for autopsy and further investigations. When DAILY GUIDE got to the residence of the deceased, there were blood stains in his bathroom and bedroom. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel T. Yankah, Crime Officer of the Ashaiman District Police Headquarters confirmed the story, noting that the police had not arrested anybody in connection with the incident. According to him, the police had commenced investigations into the matter. He called on the residents to provide the police with information which could lead to the arrest of the criminals who have been terrorizing residents of New York, Gbetsile, Bumper to Bumper, among other areas, to face full rigors of the law. Philomena Avordagbe, wife of the deceased, who was in the house with the husband and their four children when the incident occurred, told DAILY GUIDE that her husband was shot in the stomach by the four armed robbers. She noted that they heard knocks on their door while sleeping so the older children of the deceased decided to open the door. The deceased�s wife noted that immediately the daughter opened the door, the miscreants forcibly pushed the door, entered the living room and held the family hostage. Mrs. Avordagbe further mentioned that the suspects requested for money but the deceased, who was then in the bathroom rushed out to the living room to ascertain what was happening. According to her, the husband was ordered by the armed robbers to go the bedroom to retrieve all monies in the house, but he insisted that there was no money the room She said one of the suspects pushed him to the ground when the husband attempted to make a phone call. Some few minutes later, I heard a gunshot close to the bathroom so I decided to go out only to see my husband shot dead. Immediately after the killing of the tanker driver, a Nigerian was also shot in the leg after they robbed a businessman in the area. Mayhem They were said to have stolen about GH�1500 and other property. The armed robbers climbed the single storey of the businessman, Robbert Dzato, 38-year-old building materials dealer and attacked him in his room after breaking his main entrance with a cement block. Dzato told DIALY GUIDE and a team of police personnel that he managed to overpower the armed robbers who were wielding pump action gun. �I jumped on the robbers and I collected the pump action gun from them and I run away whilst naked into uncompleted building in the neighbourhood,� Dzato explained. Prior to that, the armed robbers shot through the window before entering the room where they shot a five-year-old-daughter of Dzato in the hand, who was sleeping, after the father refused to comply with their orders. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Zkirie, who led a team of police personnel from Accra and Tema to the area, said the police had intensified patrol in the area to protect lives and property.
