Mason Stands Trial For Defiling Girl, 15

A 25 year old mason is standing trial at an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 15 year old girl. Shaibu Eliasu allegedly lured the victim into his room, after he had sent her on an errand, and had sex with her. He threatened her not to disclose the act to anyone, but it was found out by the complainant, and Shaibu Eliasu was arrested and sent to the police station. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement of a child under sixteen years, contrary to section 101 (1) of act 29/60 of act 554/98, before the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemeva. He has been remanded into custody to re-appear before the court on May 21, 2014. The Prosecutor, ASP Sarah Acquah, narrating the facts of the case, stated that on April 18, 2014, the complainant went to plait her hair with the victim, and asked her to go and call her father in a house opposite the house of the accused. She said Shaibu Eliasu called the victim and gave her 20 pesewas to buy pure water, and when the victim went back to give him the water, he lured her unto his room and had sexual intercourse with her. According to her, after the act, he warned the victim not to tell anyone or else she will die. However, a week later, the complainant saw some yellowish fluid in the victims pants, and when she was questioned, she mentioned Shaibu Eliasu as the one who had sex with her, and threatened her not to disclose it to anyone, or else she would die. ASP Acquah told the court that the complainant, with the assistance of some good Samaritans, arrested Shaibu Eliasu and handed him over to the Amasaman Police, and medical report form was issued to her to send the victim to hospital for examination and treatment. The complainant later returned the medical form duly endorsed by a medical officer. The case was transferred to the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Tesano, in Accra. On caution the accused denied having committed the offence, she emphasised.
