The Local Enterprise and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) is to support people who purchased their three wheel trucks and tricycles to ensure that they get maximum returns for their investment. Under the project, LESDEP has started training four mechanics for each district in the country to help get knowledgeable mechanics close to the owners of the vehicles to provide after sales services to those who purchased the vehicles. This was disclosed by Mr George Dake, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager of LESDEP at the formal opening of a 10-days training workshop for 84 mechanics drawn from the various districts in the Eastern Region at Koforidua. As at now LESDEP has sold out 300 tricycles and 102 three wheel trucks to people in the Eastern Region. He said, after the training, each of the mechanics, all of whom own their own garages would be provided with tools for maintenance and servicing of the tricycles and the three wheel trucks. Mr Dake said, the project would also establish model workshops in each district under the programme which could be accessed by any of the trained mechanics in the district when they are in need. He said most of the vehicles were brought into the country as knock downs and were assembled by mechanics in the country and so it is expected that, through the maintenance, servicing and assembling of the knock downs, soon, the country could build the capacity of mechanics who could manufacture such vehicles locally.
