Government Intervenes to Facilitate Release Of Seized Ammunition For Ghanaian Peacekeepers In South Sudan

The Minister of Defence Mark Woyongo has given assurance that government will impress upon South Sudanese Authorities to release consignments of ammunition meant for Ghanaian contingents for their operation. The Minister was reacting to reports that containers carrying ammunition for Ghanaian UN peacekeepers in South Sudan have been seized due to wrong labeling. According to the Minister, the UN wrongly labelled the containers as construction materials. The situation means the Ghanaian soldiers are currently without weapons in the volatile country. Deputy Defence Minister and the Chairman of Parliament's Committee on Defence are leading a high powered government delegation to that country today to negotiate the release of the ammunitions.
