Canada and Ghana are currently negotiating a new trade deal, Foreign Investment Protection Agreement, to strengthen investment relations between the two countries.
Also known as Bilateral Investment Treaty, the deal is aimed at promoting Canada�s foreign investment interests "through legally-binding rights and obligations".
This was disclosed to TV3 on Tuesday, May 13 by Christopher Thornley, Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana.
Canada has already concluded negotiations with about 10 countries since 2008 over the Agreement.
Ghana is among 11 countries engaged in negotiations to sign the deal.
�We have an interest in ensuring a little more balance so we can afford to work with Ghana as well for them to develop markets in Canada," Mr Thornley said. "So we have a more balanced trade.�
He conceded that there are challenges with trading relationships with Ghana especially around infrastructure �but generally we find work quite smooth�.
