GRIDCo Unsure When Power Will Be Restored

Some parts of Accra are likely to remain in darkness for a while longer as the capital is left with just 54 megawatts of power out of the required 240 megawatts to sustain the entire region. Residents in most parts of Accra have been left in darkness for over twelve hours following an explosion at the Achimota sub-station on Wednesday. The outage affected Tema and parts of the Akuapim range. Speaking to Citi News, the Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Albert Quainoo explained that the Mallam sub-station usually produces about 180 megawatts but we are supplying only 33 megawatts. He disclosed that there is currently no supply from the Adjiriganor sub-station because we dont have all our lines to evacuate the power. Mr. Quainoo gave the assurance his outfit is working around the clock to rectify the problem. According to him, once we work to restore the affected lines into service, we will be in the position to meet the demand for Accra. He was however unable to give a definite timeline for which work on the Achimota sub-station will be completed.
