National Economic Forum At Akosombo Ends Today

President John Dramani Mahama will Thursday afternoon close the on-going National Economic Forum dialogue at Senchi in the Eastern Region. The forum is seeking to achieve consensus on the policies, strategies and measures that are required to accelerate the transition to a higher and sustainable path of development and improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians. It also explored the possibility of institutionalising a regular consultative machinery to promote dialogue between the public sector and the social partners in order to develop a national consensus on some of the critical economic policy issues confronting the country. By the close of the forum, a road-map is expected to be derived for implementation. Meanwhile, as the National Economic Forum ends today, Radio Ghana sought views from Research Centres as to what they expect from the policy makers to support them to deliver to ensure economic growth. The Research Manager of Wenchi Agric Station, Aaron Akyea, says prospects abound for cashew and called on government to make cashew production real business. On the economic value of cassava, Mr. Akyea said there are so many varieties which could be developed for both industrial and local consumption. He lamented over encroachment on the research lands which is affecting their work. Mr. Akyea appealed to the government to intervene and stop the encroachers as well as reclaim lands already developed.
