Ghana has signed a voluntary partnership agreement with the
European Union to ensure that the country's timber can be exported to the European market.
Under the agreement, all timber exported are produced in accordance with the Law governing timber allocation, extraction, processing and trade.
The agreement takes effect later
this year with the issuance of a freight certificate to the country.
To ensure that everything is on course, a team comprising the Head of the EU mission in Ghana, Ambassador Claude Marten, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Barbara Asamoah and the Chairman of the Forestry Commission, Samuel Afari have visited some timber companies
in the Western Region, and the Timber Industry Development Division, to see at first hand what is going on in the timber industry.
