An electrical company based in Germany, Care Energy Optimierte Energien,has donated solar-powered generating plants to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) and the Princess Marie Louise Hospital in Accra. The gesture is to help provide alternative sources of power to the two hospitals in the event of blackouts. The presentation was done by the management of the company together with some officials of its subsidiary in Ghana, Care Energy International. As part of the company�s initiative to help the country tackle its energy situation, especially in the health sector, the electrical company would also be donating solar panels to some hospitals in the northern region to help them operate. Essence of presentation The Presidential Staffer in charge of Youth Enterprise Development, Mr Kojo Adu-Asare, who led the delegation at the presentation, said the German-based electrical company is in the country to set up a factory to produce solar panels and other electrical accessories. Mr Adu-Asare said the initiative would create employment avenues, adding that it would help address the problem of youth unemployment in the country. He indicated that for the company to commence its operations in the country, it saw the need to announce its presence by donating some electrical appliances to some institutions in the country, hence the presentation. The Chief Executive Officer of Care Energy Optimierte Energien, Mr Martin Richard Kristek, said the presentation was part of the company�s corporate social responsibility to help beef up the energy resources of the various beneficiaries, in the face of the energy crisis currently facing the country. Beneficiary�s response Receiving the items on behalf of the KBTH, the acting Chief Executive of the hospital, Rev. Albert Botchway, said the hospital, in its quest to deliver quality services to its patients, needed optimum electricity supply to power the numerous pieces of equipment to facilitate its operations. He observed that the current energy crisis that had engulfed the country had become an impediment to its operations, noting that the presentation of the solar-powered generating plants would help the hospital to address the situation without relying on generators. He lauded the initiative of the electrical company for the presentation and called on other corporate entities to emulate the gesture by donating to the hospital.
