Legon Students� Robber Arrested [PHOTO]

A 32-year-old man, Shadrack Mensah, who is said to have specialized in snatching bags of students of the University of Ghana along the Evandy and Pentagon Hostel road, has been grabbed by the police. Mensah was arrested after he had allegedly succeeded in snatching the bag of a female student around 7:50 am on Monday, April 28, 2014. Briefing DAILY GUIDE, DSP Emmanuel Basintali, Legon District Police Commander, said the victim was on the way to lectures on the Evandy-Pentagon road when the suspect, who was hiding in a nearby bush, suddenly emerged. Victim�s bag, containing an Acer laptop, Samsung, and Nokia mobile phones and an amount of GH�52, was snatched from her. �Shadrack took advantage of the serene environment, pounced on his victim, and asked her to surrender her bag,� DSP Basintali articulated. The Legon District police boss said when the lady refused to surrender the bag, suspect, who was armed with a knife, slashed her thighs. The police officer said upon realizing that his victim was helpless, Shadrack Mensah then snatched the bag from her and jumped into the bush. The victim then rushed to the police to report the matter. He said the policeman who accompanied the victim to the scene of the crime, spotted the suspect coming out of the bush and was given a hot chase. He was arrested and the bag retrieved from him. In suspect�s caution statement, he admitted to the act and would be sent to court for prosecution.
