Tackle Corruption From The Root

2012 flag-bearer of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP,) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take the lead in the fight against corruption. Dr. Nduom could not fathom why the fight against corruption, which according to him, should be tackled from its root, was left for ministers of state, and government spokespersons to deal with. He was equally not happy about how the Mahama-led administration has handled corruption scandals like the Subah Infosolutions, Woyome, GYEEDA among others. Ghanaians voted for President Mahama and not his ministers and it is Mahama that we know therefore he must lead the crusade, he stressed. The PPP flag-bearer was sharing his views last Wednesday on Joy FMs Super Morning Show, on how to shore up the ailing Ghanaian economy. Whilst admitting that setting up independent commissions to investigate alleged corruption cases was good, Dr. Nduom said investigations were supposed to come to an end, adding we must see the implementation of such investigations. He intimated that though President Mahama may mean well for Ghana, it was important for him to translate his good intentions into action. The president may mean well for the country, but he must translate such good intentions into action, he indicated. He noted that the extent of corruption in the system was very alarming, and thereby urged government to ensure that the system of governance is changed to make it difficult for people to engage in the practice. According to Dr. Nduom, until the system is changed to deal with corrupt officials, the country cannot make any headway in its quest for economic prosperity. To this end, he reiterated the need for the office of the Attorney-General to be separated from the ministry of justice. This, he explained, will ensure transparency and integrity in the dispensation of justice when it comes to dealing with corrupt officials. Dr. Nduom bemoaned the attitude of some party members who think they can do anything and go free because their party is in power. That posture, he said, would not help the course of democracy and our fight against corruption. In his estimation, President Mahama has woefully failed in his attempt to fight corruption. If you ask me I will score him two over ten in his fight against corruption, said Dr. Nduom.
