The Police have busted a motorbike stealing syndicate at Kpaguri, a suburb of Wa, in the Upper West Region. Two of the four-member gang, Aminu Dauda, 22, painter, and Mohammed Ibrahim, 20, a driver's assistant, are in Police custody while the remaining two are on the run. Briefing The Mirror, the Upper West Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Kwesi Mensah Duku, said their modus operandi was to steal motorbikes, hide them until the heat about their loss had subsided and then sold them. ACP Duku said in their latest mission, they succeeded in stealing one which they locked up at their hide-out in Wa. ACP Duku said they were successful on another strike but Dauda, who was to ride it to the hide-out, decided to outwit the group. On May 13 this year, he sneaked out at night to sell it but luck eluded him when he met the Police patrol team at Blue Hills Hotel at Bamahu on the outskirts of Wa. When he was stopped, he could not give any reasonable explanation to the Police team and was taken to the Wa Police Station and detained for the night. ACP Duku said the next day, upon interrogation, he mentioned his three accomplices and sent the Police to their hide-out. There, to his surprise, Duku found out that a Haojin motorbike with chassis number LZLIZP100BHM48596 they had earlier hidden there was no longer there. ACP Duku said unknown to him, Ibrahim, another member of the syndicate, had the same sinister motive of outwitting his friends but he was also arrested by a military patrol team on May 12 this year and was handed over to the Police for interrogation. Dauda and Ibrahim were arraigned before the Wa Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr John Ayivor and were remanded in custody to re-appear on May 28 this year.
