Man, 54, Convicted For Forcing Boy, 12, To Eat Faeces

The Kade District Magistrate Court in the Eastern region presided over by His Worship, Abdul Majid Illiasu has pronounced six months prison sentence on Kwame Achia, 54, a farmer for forcing a 12-year-old boy to eat faeces. The convict was also slapped with GH300.000 compensation to be paid to his victim. Facts of the matter gathered by the Daily Heritage from the Kade District Magistrate Court as presented by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Asare Cobbinah are that, the victim and the convict both live at Apenkwa, a suburb of Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District. According to the prosecutor, on May 3, 2014, at about 7:30pm, the victim bought kenkey worth GH1.00, ate and dumped the refuse which, was in a polythene bag outside the house of the convict and went to sleep. The prosecutor told the court that the next day at about 7:30am; the convict found ,human faeces in polythene bag in front of his house and highly suspected the victim for the act. The convict, Kwame Achia, confronted the victim, twisted the right hand and beat him up. Not satisfied, the convict held and opened wide the mouth of the victim and forced him to eat the faeces in the presences of an eye-witness. The prosecutor explained that the eyewitness who was shocked by the cruel and inhumane act of the convict reported the incident to the victim�s guardian who lodged a complaint to the police leading to the arrest of the convict after issuing police medical forms to the victim for treatment at the hospital. Chief Inspector Asare Cobbinah said, the convict then the suspect, admitted the offence during interrogation which was collaborated by medical report from the hospital. He was charged for subjecting a minor to inhumane, cruel and degrading treatment. The presiding Judge, Abdul Majid Illiasu upon hearing the facts of the case, slapped the accused with six months prison sentence and ordered him to pay a compensation of GH300.000 for medical treatment of the victim. Reading the judgment, he expressed worry about the increasing inhumane acts being recorded of late in the country and advised Ghanaians to exercise patience in reacting to irritating situations since the law will punish such culprits.
