A Circuit Court in Cape Coast presided over by Mrs. Florence Ninepence, on Friday, remanded 20-year-old Junior High School (JHS) graduate for defilement. The accused, Emmanuel Knight Ntsiful, who is a resident at Abura in Cape Coast municipality pleaded not guilty and would be re-arraigned on Thursday June 5th, 2014. Inspector Samuel Amoako, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant in the case, Mr. John Koufie, who is also a resident of Abura, is the father of the victim. He said both the Ntsiful and the girl attend the same school but the accused recently completed and is awaiting his results. However, before he completed the school, he was already dating the girl, which relationship continued even after he had completed the school. Inspector Amoako stressed that when the complainant detected that the academic performance of the victim was becoming unsatisfactory, he contacted the school authorities to keep an eye on her. He noted that on May 16th, this year, the complainant was invited to the school by the authorities and was informed that Ntsiful was in relationship with the girl, since they were mostly seen together at odd hours. Inspector Amoako stated that based on that information, the complainant, therefore, questioned the victim and she admitted and confirmed that somewhere in February, 2014, Ntsiful took her to one Mohammed Dawudas room at Abura and had sexual intercourse with her. He added that the complainant immediately informed the police and the accused was arrested, while a medical form was issued to the girl to go to the hospital for examination. In another development, 27-year-old Zenabu Alidu, was remanded by the same court for attempting to smuggle some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp into Ankanful Maximum Security Prisons. ASP Ewusi Harvey, prosecuting the case, told the court that on May 19th, this year, at about 5pm, the accused, who is a business woman and a resident of Newtown, a suburb of Accra, went to the Ankanful Maximum Security Prisons for a visit. He said, Alidu, who was carrying a black polythene bag containing pepper, salt, Maggie cubes, coke drinks, biscuits, soaps, canned tuna, toothbrushes, pepsodents and two pairs of men sandals, wanted to deliver the items to two of the inmates, Masahudu Mukeedi and Ali Mohammed. ASP Harvey stressed that on reaching the security gate, the items were thoroughly searched by the officer on duty and in the process a concealed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, was discovered in the two pair of sandals. ASP Harvey added that the accused was questioned on how she came by those items, but she could not give any tangible reasons and was therefore handed over to the police, he added. The plea of Alidu was not taken, and he would be re-arraigned on 04/06/14.
