GIPC Targets $1.2m From 2014 World Cup

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) is hoping to rake in at least $1.2 million from investment across the various sectors of the economy during this months 2014 FIFA Football World Cup in Brazil. The centre is riding on the back of the strong brand of the Black Stars and Ghanas first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as well as other well-known icons, including Abedi Pele, to market the country sufficiently. The Principal Investment Promotion Officer of GIPC, George O. K. Asafo-Agyei, made the disclosure at a World Cup seminar for journalists in Kumasi last Friday. It was organised by Memedia Ventures. He said the GIPC would be relying greatly on the media as its main vehicle to sell the brand and achieve the set target. Key areas to be focused on and marketed, according to Mr Asafo-Agyei, would be the oil and gas sector and other emerging forces. As a back-up to the media channel, the centre is also putting together a consortium of experts to provide the proper leverage of the Black Stars brand.
