Police Arrest Alleged Human Trafficker

The Nkoranza Police has arrested Georgina Owusuaa 35, businesswoman, from Akumsa-Domase near Nkoranza for allegedly transporting eight children to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The children are aged between six and 16 years. The suspect and their parents have been sent to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Sunyani for further investigations. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Mr Kofi Sarfo from Akumsa-Domase reported to the Nkoranza Police that his 11-year-old son, Master Godbless Adjei-Sarfo, has been taken away by the suspect without his (Sarfos) consent. DSP Owusu said other parents reported similar incidents to the police, therefore the police issued a note to Mr Sarfo to trace his son in Kumasi following a tip-off about the suspect. He said Mr Sarfo alleged that the suspect organized some men to beat him in Kumasi when she saw him, telling the people that he was a thief. DSP Owusu said Mr Sarfo was however saved by the note given to him by the police from being lynched when during the scuffle he managed to show the note to them. He said Mr Sarfo was eventually saved by personnel from Suame Police Station, Kumasi who arrested the suspect. Madam Owusuaa told the GNA that she has a cultural troupe in Kumasi, where she trains young children in traditional drumming and dancing during weekends. Madam Owusuaa said she took the children to Kumasi to train them after they had expressed interest.
