Man Gets 20 Years For Defilement

Frank Awuah, also known as Kwadwo, 42, who is on record to have sexually abused a four-year-old child in the same neighbourhood at Kaemebre Down, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region, had the nerve to pray the presiding judge of the Agona Swedru Circuit Court, Ms Abigail Anima Asare, to temper justice with mercy as he was a divorcee and father of a nine-year-old child. Awuah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement, saying his nine-year-old daughter was with her mother who was his divorced wife now based in Accra. The judge had queried Awuah whether he would be happy if somebody did that to his little daughter. The judge, however, convicted Awuah on his own plea of guilty and deferred sentencing to May 19. On that adjourned date, Ms Asare slapped Awuah with a 20-year incarceration. Police Inspector Isaac Amon told the court that about 1:30 p.m. on April 2, 2014, the victim went to the premises of Awuah, 42, in the company of her brother, ostensibly to play. But Awuah, on seeing her, lured the victim into his bedroom, stripped her naked and sexually abused her, the prosecutor said. According to Inspector Amon, the victim thereafter went home to blow the lid off her ordeal to her mother who rushed to the police station with a report that led to Awuahs arrest. The prosecutor said a medical report form issued by the police to the victim later indicated that she had indeed been defiled.
