NGO Assists Agyemangkrom School

A Dormaa-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Onipa Nti Ghana, has handed over a quantity of items comprising 1500 exercise books and 300 schoolbags to the Agyemangkrom M/A Primary School located in the Dormaa Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region. The items, worth 5,000, were secured through assistance from the RTL television channel based in Germany. The Director of Onipa Nti Ghana, Madam Linda Ankomah, who presented the items to Mr Gordon Asubonteng, the Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, for onward distribution to the pupils, pledged her continuous support. She expressed concern over the lack of inspiration among the youth in Ghana to engage in voluntary work. She said it was not common these days to have people take part in communal activities. These days people do not offer help for free. Indeed, the sole aim of providing services these days is for reward, and if this trend continues, it would lead to a decline in moral standards, she said. She advised Ghanaians not to be overly interested in seeking money but be of service to others. Let us cultivate the habit and spirit of volunteerism, advocacy and willingness to serve our communities and the nation at large. The director of Onipa Nti noted that the spirit of belongingness and communal living had sunk over the years in the same way that the spirit of volunteerism was dying, paving the way for self-centeredness. The MCE for Dormaa, Mr Gordon Asubonteng, commended the NGO for its kind gesture in support of education in the municipality, and urged it to continue with its free-willing spirit to assist the needy in the country.
