7 Stabbed Over Chieftaincy Fracas

SEVEN PERSONS were stabbed at Abease following a chieftain fracas, which took place during the weekend. Two of the victims, who sustained severe injuries, have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Seven suspects have been arrested by the police while four others are on the run. One of the escapees, Kwabena Boateng, is said to have masterminded the killing of one Opanin Kwabena Adjei, a prominent personality at Abease in 2003. ASP Bansa, Pru District Police Commander, declined to comment on the matter and referred DAILY GUIDE to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander since the case had been forwarded to his office. Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that since the death of the Paramount chief of Abease, Nana Kokroko Nnwomakwa six years ago, the inhabitants have not enjoyed peace. The installation of a new paramount chief of Abease has become problematic because the kingmakers failure to select a candidate. Since there is no substantive paramount chief of Abease, people have taken the law into their own hands to engage in activities like illegal felling of trees, charcoal burning, Opanin Akwasi Ameyaw, an elder of Abease told DAILY GUIDE. He revealed that the even some sub-chiefs were rapidly destroying the environment through random charcoal burning. The Paramount chief of Prang Traditional area, who is the immediatepast president of the Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs, Nana Kwadwo Nyarkoh II, told DAILY GUIDE in an interview the chieftaincy institution was gradually losing its reputation because of the attitude of some kingmakers. He said the time has come for kingmakers and stakeholders to speak the truth on the installation of chiefs. He passionately appealed to the people of Abease to exercise restraint while efforts were being made to get them a new paramount chief.
