Okponglo Divine Mercy Begins New Chapel Project

The Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Okponglo in Accra has cut the sod to begin its new church building. The project, estimated at GH2 million, is a three-storey building comprising a 1,500-seating capacity chapel, a parish hall, offices, conference rooms and an adorationchapel. It is expected to be completed in five years. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, cut the sod and prayed that Jesus, the rock, would sustain the project and make the faithful living stones. He said the church was not the building but its members and urged the faithful to lead holy lives and endeavour to grow in the Lord as the church grew. There are many saints in heaven than the church had officially made known. A saint is one who does the ordinary things of life in an extraordinary way. I will urge you as the faithful to do your normal duties in extraordinary ways, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle said. Mr Stephen Opon, Vice-Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council, said the project was being financed with internally generated funds and urged the faithful, as well as well-wishers to contribute generously towards the early completion of the chapel.
