4 Student Nurses, Driver Killed In Accident

Two second-year students of the Nurses Training College (NTC) in Ho and a driver died on the spot when the bus on which they were travelling was involved in an accident near Adukrom on the Akwapim Range in the Eastern Region last Friday. The five who were in the company of 53 other student nurses, were returning to Ho from an educational tour at Mampong Akuapem. The students had visited the School for the Blind and the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine (CSRPM), both in Mampong�Akwapim in the Eastern Region, as part of their annual educational practicals. Forty-seven of the students are on admission at the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho, while six of them are receiving treatment at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua. The Medical Superintendent of the Volta Regional Hospital, Dr John Tampouri, told the Daily Graphic that the students on admission had been treated and were in stable condition. When contacted, the Principal of the Ho NTC, Mrs Josephine Ansu-Gyeabour, said the student nurses used three buses for the tour. Two 33-seater buses belonging to the college returned to the school safely, while the one hired from the Mawuli Senior High School was involved in the accident.
