Cabbie Arrested For Defilement

Daniel Ayeh, a 35-year-old taxi driver at Effiakuma near Takoradi has been remanded into police custody by a Takoradi Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl. The girl, a primary five pupil, was on her way to church when the unfortunate incident occurred. Briefing DAILY GUIDE, ASP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Western Regional Police PRO indicated that the victim lived with her uncle, Gabriel Boakye at Fijai near Sekondi while the taxi driver, Ayeh operated at Effiakuma. The police PRO noted that the accused got to know the 13-year-old girl about two years ago when she used to sell iced water at the Obiri-Effia-Nkwanta taxi rank. She stated that on May 25, 2014, at about 11:00am, the girl was on her way to church when the accused was driving from Takoradi to Kojokrom and met her at Fijai. On seeing the girl, the cabby stopped and picked her up and asked her to show him where he could get electricity pre-paid credit to buy. But the girl told the taxi driver she was going to church. However, the taxi driver allegedly promised to send her to church after purchasing the credit. However, the 35-year-old driver drove the girl to his house and allegedly defiled her, gave her GH5.00 and asked her to go home. Because the girl was afraid her uncle, Gabriel Boakye, would beat her for going home late, she returned to the taxi drivers house in the night. The taxi driver, Daniel Ayeh, kept the girl in his room and purportedly had sex with her every evening until May 28, 2014, when she started bleeding from the vagina. The accused, Ayeh, then released the girl to go home but she loitered around the area until a neighbour, who is the complainant in the case, saw her and sent her home. The little girl later narrated her ordeal to her uncle who reported the case to the offices of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Police Service in Takoradi. The girl then led the police to the house of the taxi driver and Daniel Ayeh was arrested. He admitted the offence in his caution statement. He was arraigned before a Takoradi Circuit Court on June 4, 2014, and was remanded to reappear on June 9, 2014.
