Residents Call For Action At Korle Gonno Dumping Site

Some residents of Korle Gonno Tuesday Market in Accra have appealed tothe government and Zoomlion, a waste management company, to relocate the dumping site located in the area. The site has been used for dumping and recycling for about a year but residents said the stench and air pollution was becoming a problem. Madam Cecilia Donkor, a resident who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the situation must be remedied immediately because of the serious health hazards to residents. She said Tuesdays were market days in the area but the smell that emanated from the place made it unbearable for buyers and sellers to go about their activities. Madam Mary Adjovi, a seller, said there were flies in the market, making it difficult for buyers to patronize food products. She said the place was at first used to separate plastics for recycling but now there was too much waste at the place, resulting in the stench and appealed to management of the place to work to act quickly.
