An Accra High Court yesterday sentenced Prophet Daniel Yaw Nkansah, the 2008 presidential hopeful and founder of the New Vision Pentecostal Church, to six-month imprisonment for contempt. The Court, presided over by Justice Peter Dei-Offei, found him guilty of disobeying the court�s order with no option of a fine. This followed a long trial that was characterized by many adjournments at the instance of Prophet Nkansah. Disobeying Court Order The controversial man of God cum politician was tried for preventing the applicant, one Mrs. Sikiratu Obe, from enforcing the substantive judgement she had won against the Prophet. The conviction was based on the fact that after bailiffs had executed the judgement in favour of the applicant by locking up shops wrongfully erected on her land at Bubuashie, a suburb of Accra, Prophet Nkansah organised his boys to forcefully open the shops and prevented the applicant from repossessing her property. In convicting the 2008 presidential candidate of the NVP, the court said it had noted Prophet Nkansah�s arrogance and lack of remorse for his conduct. The trial judge, however, said he had considered the passionate plea for leniency by his counsel, from Cudjoe Arthur Chambers, to tamper justice with mercy and accordingly handed him the six-month jail term. The NVP presidential hopeful is currently standing trial at the Accra Circuit Court One for myriad offences including alleged robbery. Logistical Constraints Prophet Nkansah was to appear before another court for alleged robbery. He is on trial with nine others but could not be heard by an Accra Circuit Court yesterday. Neither the accused nor his accomplices were produced in court due to what prosecution had described as �logistical constraints�. Though counsel for Prophet Nkansah had filed a formal application for bail as ordered by the court at the last adjourned date, the court was unable to grant the bail because of the absence of the accused persons. This compelled the trial judge to adjourn the case to June 16. Prophet Nkansah was caged by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Francis Obiri, after the police had accused him of hiding from them when an issue of robbery he was allegedly involved in was reported. The leader of NVP is facing six counts of conspiracy to rob and robbery with his son, Daniel Boahene Nkansah Jnr, and eight others, two of who are currently at large. They are said to have robbed one Stephen Ped Andam, a tenant in Prophet Nkansah�s store at Atico Junction in Accra on February 1 of his Samsung S4, iPhone, Dell laptop with charger, cheque books, international driver�s licence, certificates, iPad 32GB and GH�55,000. Prophet Nkansah, in connivance with his son and the 10 others, are also alleged to have made away with a Blackberry Q10 mobile phone and GH�500 belonging to one Geshon Essel, while another person, Billy Apeku Ken, also claimed his Samsung mobile phone, Dell laptop and GH�750 were missing. The fourth complainant, Isaac Tetteh Korgbey, has also accused Nkansah and the 11 others of the disappearance of his Dell laptop and Sony video camera. One Emmanuel Nana Kwaku Badu has also complained of his missing wallet containing GH�1,000 and I.D. cards.
