The Ashanti Regional office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has held a one-day staff durbar to share ideas and experiences on how to improve efficiency in the management of the scheme.
The programme brought together personnel from all the 26 Metropolitan, Municipal and District schemes in the region.
Also in attendance were staff members from the Monitoring and Evaluation Officers of the Regional Secretariat of the NHIA, Scheme Managers, and lines officers like those from Claims, Public Relations, Accounts and Management and Information Systems, among others.
Staff commended
The Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Nii Annan Adjetey, commended the staff of the NHIA for their dedication and commitment towards the sustainability of the scheme while addressing the participants.
He said although they went through major challenges during the introduction of the capitation policy in the region in 2012, the staff stood firm and worked hard to make significant gains for the scheme and development of health in the country. The region has become the pacesetter in the implementation of the capitation policy.
Currently, a little over 10 million Ghanaians have registered with the NHIS, with many others yet to register, while others also remain adamant to register or renew their cards to access healthcare under the scheme.
Encouraging people to join the scheme
Operators of the scheme are doing everything possible to encourage many people to join the scheme in various parts of the country.
Nii Adjetey urged residents in the three other regions, namely the Volta, Upper East and Upper West regions where the capitation is being implemented to accept the policy since they stood the chance of gaining more from the scheme.
He mentioned that gradually, the capitation would soon be rolled out in the entire nation and urged all stakeholders to do their part to help improve the operation of the scheme and the nation�s healthcare delivery system.
The Ashanti Regional Director of NHIA, Mr Daniel A. Frempong, said there was the need for staff of the scheme to continue working hard to attain their goals of extending and increasing the number of clients. He gave the assurance that management would continue to support their endeavours and improve on their working conditions.
