Police Nab Two For Robbing At Gunpoint

Two members of a gang of four who allegedly attacked a house and robbed the occupants at gunpoint have been arrested at Nungua. Those arrested are Ibrahim Abdul Aziz, 19, an apprentice refrigeration mechanic, and Faisal Illiasu Kofi, 24, a scrap dealer. The Nungua District Police Commander, Superintendent Patience Akwetey, told journalists in Accra that about 3a.m. on June 9, 2014, the four armed robbers attacked a house at Nungua. The house, located at Nungua Nautical, near the Maritime University, was occupied by three Nigerians. She said the victims reported that the robbers took away seven laptops, eight mobile phones and an undisclosed amount. Neighbours� help However, before the robbers could escape, the victims raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of some residents of the area, Mrs Akwetey said. The residents gave the robbers a hot chase and managed to arrest two of them, while the other two escaped. With the help of the neighbours, the victims handed over the robbers to the Nungua Police. �The police conducted a search on the two men and retrieved a locally manufactured pistol and six live cartridges,� she said. The police, she added, also found three laptops and a mobile phone suspected to be the two suspects� share of the booty. Aziz had a wrap of a dried substance believed to be Indian hemp in his pocket. Advice Mrs Akwetey said preliminary investigations conducted by the police had established that two of the alleged robbers were residents of Ashaiman, while the other two were from Nungua. She commended the residents for their assistance that led to the arrest of the two robbers, adding, �We have to be one another�s keeper.� She advised the public to keep the contact numbers of their neighbours, so that they could call one another when they were in difficulty.
