THERE WAS pandemonium at Akyem Akrofufu in the Atiwa district of the Eastern region last Saturday, June 7, this year when one Okyeame Seth Laryea who followed the Okyenhene's delegation to attend the funeral of the late chief linguist, Akyeamehene, Nana Yaw Owusu of Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin was shot dead at close range.
An eyewitness account which was corroborated by the Anyinam Police said many chiefs from Akyem Abuakwa state and elsewhere attended the funeral of the late akyeamehene to give him their last respect and as custom demands, there were firing of musketery.
The report said, one of the chief executioners, Kwaku Okyere, who was firing the musketery was said to be using live cartridge instead of the gun powder they normally use in such occasions and accidentally fired at Okyeame Laryea killing him instantly.
The unfortunate incident caused confusion as people run helter skelter for dear lives. Okyere was arrested and sent to Anyinam Police Station where he is assisting them in their investigations.
