President Mahama, Please Come To Our Aid...-Casual Workers Cry

GOVERNMENT HEALTH CASUAL WORKERS OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA The President John Dramani Mahama Flagstaff House Accra. Dear Mr. President, We, the health Casual workers in Accra especially appreciate the good works you are doing for mother Ghana. In your manifesto you highlighted the importance of the health sector and your commitment to it as well, which included the staff who deliver in the health sector. Casual health workers have been treated unfairly for over a decade, and it hurt us when their Public Relations Officer, Anthony Goodman told Citi FM in Accra that the MOH/GHS does not have any contract with us and that they cannot regularise our appointment after the Publication in the Daily Graphic, "Ministry of Health to Lay off Casual workers", 27TH May edition. We humbly appeal to your highest office to intervene on our behalf. We gave it a thought to appeal to you because since October 2Q13, when our employment issue came to the public, the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service have not been able to help us, although they requested for our details. In October 2013, the Daily Graphic conducted a survey and came out that over 300 Causal workers have been working way beyond the Labour Law stipulation, from one year to 15 years and still remain as casual workers. Mr. President, our working condition is very poor, we receive very low wages, between GH₵120 to GH₵180 monthly. We do not have staff Identity, we do not receive motivation, and to add to our woes the MOH/GHS say we do not have contract with them, which means they don't recognize us. Mr. President, after all these selective treatment, we work very hard, when you visit any health facility you don't see any difference between casual workers and regularized workers. When it comes to remuneration, there is great discrimination towards casual workers. Institutions like Achimota Hospital and Children's Hospital have never had their Casual workers regularized, but we always hear of news that other health facilities Casual workers are frequently regularized. We humbly appeal to you once again to come to our aid as we are struggling to make ends meet even though we can assure you that our input is above 100 percent, the regularised staff themselves would attest to that. We hope our request would be granted and we promise to continue to serve the nation in our best capacity. With Great Respect. Concerned Health Casual Workers Accra.
