Fufu And Goat Meat Thief Grabbed

Robbers and common thieves in the Eastern region are now diverting to stealing food items instead of the usual robbing of property worth millions of cedis. Food thieves have been on the increase for some time now in the Eastern region, in particular, the regional capital, Koforidua. Early this month, two robbers Kwasi Agyei,(49), Robert Afedzi (20) were arrested by the New Juaben Police Command for allegedly stealing foodstuffs including palm oil, quantities of onion, three sacks of cocoyam and a bunch of plantain, all valued at GH 1,500.00. The other accomplice, one Felix, is, however, at large. The canteen of the Central Tabernacle Assembly of The Church of Pentecost has also been raided by some unknown robbers. The robbers stole pastries, minerals among other things. Last week, a group of daring robbers struck two times at Atwemamena, a community near Akyeam Asafo and stole 20 sheep and goats. Many owners of provision stores have consistently lodged official complaints at the Police station over thefts recorded in their shops. A young man believed to be in his twenties was over the weekend arrested for stealing two goats and cassava in the New Juaben Municipality. Reports from farming communities such as Akyem Asafo, Anyinasin, Kwarbeng and Assesewa indicate an increase in stealing of farm produce and livestock. The Eastern region, according to the Police recorded high crime rate, many being violent crimes, such as robbery and murder in the month of May. Statistics from the Eastern regional Police command shows that, eight high crimes were recorded in the region, last month, while within, five months, 18 suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the Police in the region.
