The Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, has presented a cheque of GHS250,000 towards the establishment of a Centre to be known as the Drolor Centre for Strategic Leadership (DCSL) at the UPSA. Nene Adamtey I, who made the presentation during a Governing Council meeting, said it was in fulfilment of the pledge he made in April this year, when he was inducted as the first Chancellor of the University. Presenting the cheque to Mr. Justice Nii Aryeetey, Chairman of the UPSA Governing Council, Nene Adamtey I said, I will continue to support and be personally involved in the development of this Centre. I am confident that UPSA will be the education hub for strategic leadership training, and will produce a new generation of globally-minded leaders for the country and the rest of Africa. Nene Adamtey I, also known in private life as Dr. Kingsley A. Fletcher, further mentioned his intention to set up a scholarship scheme for the Ga-Dangbe youth, including the youth of the Se traditional area where he is chief. In this regard, the Chancellor promised to institute a scholarship scheme for ten youth from the three clans of Ga-Dangbe to pursue higher education at the UPSA. Out of the ten, there will be a floating scholarship for the most brilliant youth from the area. This would create opportunities for brilliant but deprived Ga-Dangbe youth who have the passion to study, he concluded. The Chancellor commended the Management of UPSA, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Alabi for their commitment and dedication towards the development of the University. On his part, the Chairman of the UPSA Governing Council thanked Nene Adamtey I for his support towards the development of the University, and in particular towards the establishment of the Centre. Regarding the scholarship scheme, Mr. Aryeetey assured the Chancellor that Management would work out the modalities for the scheme to become operational as soon as possible. The Chairman also pledged Managements continuous commitment towards fulfilling the vision and mission of the University. It will be recalled that the University recently announced the establishment of three centres of excellence, the first of which, Centre for Public Accountability (CPA), has already been inaugurated. The other two, Drolor Centre for Strategic Leadership and Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership, will be inaugurated in the course of the year.
