Ghanaian Cocoa Farmer Adjudged Global Best

The 2013 National Best Cocoa Farmer, Opanyin Abraham Adusei, has been honoured as the best cocoa farmer in the world by the International Cocoa Organisation (ICCO). Opanyin Adusei was lauded at the three-day ICCO World Cocoa Conference in Armsterdam, Netherlands for his outstanding contribution to the global cocoa industry. The award was presented to him by the Executive Director of ICCO, Dr Jen-Marc Anga, at the conference which took place from June 9-13, 2014. The meeting was held on the theme, �Sustainable World Cocoa Economy, Mapping Progress along the Road.� The event was attended by more than 1,400 participants from around the world. Arrival at KIA Members of the Saviour Church of Ghana (SCG), of which Opanyin Adusei is the General Superintendent, converged on the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra, to welcome him on his arrival back home last Sunday. Opanyin Adusei, who disembarked the flight adorned in the colours of the Ghana flag, was hailed and cheered by the welcoming party. Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Opanyin Adusei, who is also a member of the Council of State, said he was proud to be a Ghanaian, and that his award and recognition was for the country. �This award conferred on me has really humbled me and made me aware that people are watching and that God is always aware of whatever you are doing,� he said. He said the honour done him also indicated that the world appreciated the country�s contribution to the global cocoa industry. He noted that ensuring the sustainability of the cocoa sector was the responsibility of all stakeholders and not that of farmers only.
