GAF Plans To Produce Military Uniforms Locally

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will soon begin the production of uniforms for military personnel locally, to address the challenges of inadequate uniforms for troops, and create jobs in the country. A statement signed by Major Evelyn Asamoah, Deputy Director of Information and Press Relations of the GAF, copied to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, said the chief of Army Staff made the announcement when he paid a working visit to the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) at Teshie, at the weekend. It said the COAS pledged to initiate measures to address the challenges facing the MATS, and its staff to work hard to promote the image of the military academy. The statement said Rear Admiral Bonsu, Commandant of MATS, briefed Maj. Gen. Opoku-Adusei on the mission, organization, current training activities and programmes as well as challenges facing the MATS. It reminded the public that the primary mission of MATS was to mentor, train and empower members of the GAF, to carry out the core duty of defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ghana from internal and external aggression. The MATS has fourteen schools and there are currently training activities, such as the officer cadets training courses, sergeant major training activities and the advanced weapon training, the statement said. It also mentioned work on the MATS officers mess, a two bedroom flat for officers, and the academy hall, which was 85 per cent complete, as some of the on-going projects at the school.
