Outgoing Minister Of Health Appeals To Service Providers Not To Withdraw From NHIS

The outgoing Minister of Health, Madam Sherry Ayittey says, government is mobilising funds to clear all outstanding arrears under the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure its smooth operations. She is therefore urging the Christian Health Providers Association of Ghana not to withdraw their services as threatened. Madam Ayittey who made the comment at the Meet the Press Series in Accra on Tuesday noted that the NHIA has concluded a review of its medicine list and has further revised its rates to reflect market realities. This according to the Minister of Health will take effect from September, 2014. She said service providers must exercise restraint as government works to ensure the sustainability of the scheme as well as create a win-win situation for all parties. Meanwhile, Madam, Sherry Ayittey says the Ministry has taken the necessary action on the administrative and management issues pertaining to the KATH missing baby saga as prescribed by the recommendation of the Medical Dental Council. It has also forwarded the criminal aspect of the case to the AG's Department. Madam Ayittey said she believes the AG's Department is competent enough to work with the Police to bring a closure to the issue. Madam Ayittey advised the senior staff association of the Korle Bu Teaching hospital to keep calm as the ministry is doing everything to resolve the wrangling between the board and them to ensure that there is transparency and accountability in the administration of the hospital.
