Metro Mass �Growing Weaker� � Minister

The Minister for Transport, Mrs. Dzifa Ativor yesterday told Parliament that, out of the 1,019 buses in the custody of the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT), only 750 are operational. According to her, the situation has been occasioned by various reasons including poor maintenance and bad road in the country. She indicated to Parliament that, in order that, they pursue their mandate of rendering social services as regards transportation adequately to the Ghanaian populace, the company has developed a five year strategic plan. The Minister asserted that, the key element of the plan includes the expansion of bus services to all district capitals by 2015. She revealed that, as a result a loan which would see the acquisition of 200 new buses would soon be presented to Parliament for consideration and approval. The Minister was responding to a question posed to her by the NDC�s MP for Adaklu. The Adaklu MP requested her to indicate to parliament when the MMT will extend its services to Adaklu Waya, the capital of the Adaklu District. The Minister said, a team would soon visit the area in July, 2014 to conduct feasibility studies and upon completion; bus services would commence form the district capital to Ho, Aflao and Accra in August, 2014. Similarly, the deputy Minister for Defence, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, indicated that, efforts are underway to ensure the speedy commencement and completion of the Kumasi Military Hospital Project. The Minister was answering a question posed to him by the NPP�s MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Benito Owusu Bio who requested to know when the project would commence. Similarly, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho has directed that, the Ministry of Health makes available to the house the report of the committee which looked into the mysterious death of babies at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The speaker�s directive came forth after the Majority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak drew the attention of the House to the availability of the committee�s report. The speaker noted that, any issue that involves women and children should not be taken lightly particularly so when it involves human lives. He said once the report is availed to parliament, it would consider it for further deliberations.
