ECG Moves To Improve Service In Ashanti Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is investing close to $100million in the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to improve on its services to consumers in the region. The expansion programme is being financed from internally generated funds of the company with support from the World Bank. Speaking at a media interaction in Kumasi, the Managing Director of the ECG, Rev. William Hutton-Mensah, said the company had built a second Bulk Supply Point at Anwomanso as part of efforts to improve service. That supply point, he said, would service customers in the eastern parts of the region, including towns such as Ejisu-Juaben, Effiduase, Agona, Mampong and their environs and reduce the pressure on the supply point at Ridge and improve on power supply to consumers in that part of the region. Besides, he said the company was also expanding its primary substation at Barekese to enable the dam to have stable and reliable power supply to pump water to residents in the metropolis. Power theft Rev. Hutton-Mensah bemoaned the spate of power thefts in the country which, he said, was affecting the revenue generation of the country. He said some people have readjusted their metres such that they were consuming power without paying for it, while others who had been disconnected for non-payment of bills had also reconnected their metres without approval from the company. All these, according to Rev. Hutton-Mensah, were contributing to the system losses and negatively affecting the fortunes of the company.
